Google Play’s Offline Game Section

As the title suggests, Google Play now has an Offline Games section.

This is perfect for casual gamers which is, in my opinion, the majority. Most of the smartphone users play with their downloaded games as way to consume extra time and are not exactly committed to the game itself.

Most games from the Playstore nowadays may require internet connection before you can start playing. But not all of the time, especially in the Philippine setting, there is WIFI available. Those supposedly cool games we downloaded online just end up eating up our phone’s memory and of course, in most cases gets deleted.

We understand that internet connection is essential for a lot of games. For example, to counter piracy or for those which require in-app purchases and those which support multiplayers. However, casual gamers don’t look for those types of games but instead for the much simpler ones and the Offline section makes it a lot easier for them (us!) to find these kinds of games.
Popular titles in this section include Asphalt 8, Adventure Town, Tank World War, Air Alert, Ninja Revenge, Zombie World and more! All of which you can play anywhere in the world.
I hope this move by Google would inspire more game developers to cater to the needs of the casual gamers and make single player games that don’t require internet connection.

Nokia X2: Your last chance for a Nokia Android Phone

Nokia X2 Dual Sim

Not even a month after Nokia has released the Nokia X2, an affordable smartphone running on Android, Microsoft (Yes, Nokia is under Microsoft now) has announced that they will be ending the company’s work on Android.

According to Stephen Elop’s, Microsoft’s Devices Executive Vice President, memo, the Android-powered Nokia products are just not in line with Microsoft’s strategic direction and that the company will be focusing more on the market for the Windows Phone. Also they plan to deliver additional lower-cost Lumia devices by shifting select future Nokia X designs and products to Windows Phone devices. The existing Nokia X products, however, will continue to be sold and supported.

This announcement was in line with the company’s big move to layoff 18,000 of its jobs over the next year. Satya Nadella said in his email that 12,500 of the jobs will be coming from Nokia including both professionals and factory workers. Another product line to be shutdown following this layoffwould be the Xbox Entertainment Studios.

The Nokia X product line was introduced to the world last February (before Nokia was acquired by Microsoft) showing off its interesting combination of an Android-powered phone with the look and design of a Windows Phone.  This experiment however is short-lived.
For the fans of both Nokia and Android, X2 will be your last chance to have a device with both the big names in it.

Nokia X2 specs:
  • 4.3-inch, 217 ppi with 480×800 resolution display
  • 5-Megapixel rear-facing camera
  • 0.3 Megapixel front-facing camera
  • 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor
  • 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB memory
  • SIM card type: Micro SIM
  • Dual SIM: Dual Standby SIM
  • Battery Capacity: 1800mAh

iPhone 6 clones on the market ahead of Apple

Months before the awaited announcement and release of Apple's next flagship phone (rumored the iPhone 6), clones of the device, dubbed the Wico i6 and Goophone i6 have already surfaced on the market.

Chinese clone handset makers beat the Cupertino based company in releasing their latest products even before the final specifications of the rumored iPhone 6 have been officially released.

Wico i6 was announced by 86digi.com accompanied with a video showing a demo of the actual device. Aside from the interesting background music, the video shows a device that, at first glance, looks a lot like the ‘leaked’ 4.7-inch version of the iPhone 6. The said clone features a 960x1704 resolution and runs with a quad-core processor with 32GB memory and 2 GB or ram.

As you can see on the video, Wico i6 is very detailed as its body closely resembles (aside from its side-mounted power button) the leaked design of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 with its slightly modified volume buttons and curved edges. Its interface also closely resembles that of an iPhone but of course, what you see is not the anticipated iOS 8 but rather a heavily modded Android KitKat.

Another iPhone 6 clone that has been making a buzz over the internet (via GizChina.com) recently is the GooPhone i6 which is set to be on the market next month. When you look at their website, you can see that GooPhone.net not only sells the iPhone copy but also clones of HTC and Samsung products.

GooPhone i6 boasts a 4.7-inch IPS display with a 960x540 resolution, a 5 MP front and 13 MP rear camera. The iPhone clone is said to run on a quad-core Mediatek MT6582 chipset with 1 GB or RAM and 8 GB memory. Similar to the other GooPhone clones, the GooPhone i6 is powered by Android.

-
With the iPhone 5s nearing its first birthday, and basing on recent events concerning next-generation releases of the iPhone, Apple is set to announce their next flagship device this September. But even before the smartphone innovator has commented about it, leaks of their supposed new devices have been circulating over the internet. Yes, devices. Leaks have shown that the Apple iPhone 6 would come in 2 variants: 4.7- and 5.5-inch models. But everything is still yet to be confirmed by Apple itself. The leaked pictures, however, have been the sources of the design and looks of the iPhone 6 clones that we have today.

Huge Nokia Price Cut at Abenson Appliances - Starts at 50% off

Great news Lumia fans! Abenson Appliances is giving a 9-day sale for the Lumia 1320 and a 7-day sale for the Lumias 1020 and 1520. The sale of Lumias started on July 11, 2015 and have received huge price cuts. Check them out after the break.

The Lumia 1320 is currently priced at only Php 9,000 - a 50% off from the original SRP of PhP 18,000! The Lumia 1320 runs Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 platform. It is powered by a dual-core 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor with a gig of RAM for a lagless experience. It is also equipped with a 6-inch 720p IPS LCD touchscreen with ClearBlack Technology, a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with 1080p video recording, and 8 GB of storage which you could expand via microSD with memories of up to 64 GB.

Next on sale is the Lumia 1020 with a current price of Php 11,000. That's a Php 13,990 or 56% price cut! The 1020 also runs Windows Phone 8 platform with a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor with 2 gigs of RAM. It is armed with a 4.5-inch 720p AMOLED touchscreen with Nokia's Puremotion HD and ClearBlack Display technology for a good viewing experience, and 32 GB memory with no option for expansion. And the best part is its whopping 41 megapixel camera with PureView technology and optical image stabilization that enables it to capture excellent images and videos (1080p with 4x lossless zoom). This is one great deal for people who are interested in mobile photography. Also, people on a budget could finally try the mobile camera beast at a fairly low price!

And the last one is the Lumia 1520, Nokia's, uh, Microsoft's phablet flagship phone with a price of Php 12,000. That's a Php 20,590 or a 63% discount! It is one of the company's top-of-the-line devices running Windows Phone 8 with a quad-core 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor with 2 GB of RAM. It's got a 6 inch 1080p IPS LCD touchscreen with ClearBlack Display, 16 GB of memory with the option to expand via microSD of up to 64 GB, and an excellent 20 megapixel camera with PureView technology. It's like half the resolution of the Lumia 1020 but still creates beautiful images and videos.

These devices are great ones but I personally prefer the Lumia 1520 because of its fast processor. Though the Lumia 1020 has an advantage in the camera department, I still look at the whole package. A Php 1,000 difference is not that great so it gives more value for your money.

There you go guys! 3 great devices on sale with huge price cuts. The sale also applies in Electroworld and Avant. Please do note that this sale will run while supplies last. I have read articles that the lines were pretty much long and stocks of Lumia 1020s and 1520s were running out. Have a happy phone hunting!

And one last thing (especially in Luzon), please do not risk your lives going out just to buy these devices as typhoon Glenda is currently rampaging in the country. It would be better if you stay inside your homes until the storm signal warnings in your area are lifted. Keep safe everyone!

[Video] Playing Fruit Ninja - With a Knife?

The Lumia 930 is the latest flagship of the Lumia series made by Nokia. Nokia has been known for mobile phones that are known to endure considerable stress (cough 3310, cough). And this year's Lumia 930 is not an exception. With the Gorilla Glass 3 from Corning, its screen is made even more resistant to scratches. Moreover, it carries a super-sensitive touch feature that enables the use of gloves, even pens  and styluses.

Now Microsoft-owned, Nokia's flagship phone had its screen durability and sensitivity put to the test. And it was through the use of a knife! Yes, this guy tried to play Fruit Ninja, one of the most popular games in mobile phones, using a knife. Check out his literal fruit slicing game below.

As you can see, the Gorilla Glass screen fared pretty well against the sharp knife. But there were times that the phone failed to register some of the knife's inputs. You could also see a scratch that the knife probably left on the screen after he played the game.

But who uses knives on their phones anyway? With the Gorilla Glass on the Lumia 930, it could live with your daily activities. Add a Snapdragon 800 processor, an Amoled screen with ClearBlack display, 32 GB storage, and a powerful 20 megapixel PureView camera, your smartphone experience would be more than enough.

50,000 MiPads Sold Out in 4 Minutes

Photo from Xiaomi Facebook Page

The Xiaomi MiPad, the China-based company's first tablet, went on sale for the first time almost 2 months after it was first announced to the public, and was sold out in exactly 3 minutes and 59 seconds!

The tablet, which is currently only available in China, is priced at 1,499 yuan (approximately P10,500) for its 16GB variant and 1,699 yuan (approximately P11,900) for the 64GB one.

At that given price, the 7.9" MiPad which comes with a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, is almost half of that of Apple's Ipad Mini with Retina Display. Other specifications for the MiPad are a 2048x1536 326 PPI screen, an 8 MP rear and 5 MP front camera, and a 16/64 GB flash memory which is extensible to 128GB via microSD card.

There is no news yet as to when the tablet would be on sale outside of Mainland China. Personally, I can't wait for it to arrive in the Philippines and given the rate at which the company is expanding and Xaomi already selling its flagship device, the Mi 3 here, we won't have to wait for long.
